=============================================================================== SHELLS AND TI-CHESS v2.01 FAQ Written by Marcos Lopez of the TI-CHESS TEAM ( markoslj@teleline.es ) 17/04/2000 =============================================================================== As you'll have noticed, there are 2 different releases of TI-CHESS v2.01, NOSTUB version (which doesn't require any kernel) and DOORS version. TI-CHESS NOSTUB version has been succesfully tested with all these kernels and setups (FROM THE COMMAND LINE): Setups: -TI89 HW1 AMS 1.00 -TI89 HW1 AMS 2.03 Kernels: -None -DoorsOS II v0.96 -UniversalOS v1.10 -TeOS v1.02 I have no HW2 calculator to do more tests, so any feedback will be appreciated -NOTE FOR AMS2.03 USERS: TI-CHESS NOSTUB version cannot be started directly because of the 8kb limit. You need to run the included file TICSTART() which launches the program bypassing this limit. If you have already installed one of the mentioned kernels (which break the 8kb software limit) you'll be able to launch TI-CHESS directly. -COMPATIBILITY ISSUES: TI-CHESS DOORS version has been tested to *RUN* with the mentioned kernels (DoorsOS II v0.96, UniversalOS v1.10, TeOS v1.02). HOWEVER: TI-CHESS DOORS version is known to cause unstability / strange program behaviour / random crashes whatever the reason. This is why NOSTUB version is recommended. Also, TI-CHESS is INCOMPATIBLE (will crash the calculator) with: -TeOS v1.00 -DoorsOS II v0.95 and below Fortunately, latest versions of these kernels have apparently fixed the compatibility problems and will *RUN* TI-CHESS DOORS version, but won't run it completely stable, so, well, USE NOSTUB VERSION!! We know that DoorsExplorer is easy to use and it won't run the NOSTUB version, but this is a restriction of kernels!! If you want a quick access to the program we suggest to make a simple KDBPRGM TI-Basic program, for example: kbdprgm1() Prgm main\tichess() EndPrgm This way a simple DIAMOND+1 will run TI-CHESS!! UniversalOS will run the NOSTUB version from the DoorsExplorer with menus/screen corruption so run TI-CHESS FROM THE COMMAND LINE!! To sum up, here are our advices to run TI-CHESS v2.01: -USE THE NOSTUB VERSION EVEN IF YOU HAVE DOORSOS OR ANY OTHER KERNEL INSTALLED. -RUN TICHESS FROM THE COMMAND LINE. Now, it's time to enjoy this beautiful program!!! =============================================================================== Written by Marcos Lopez of the TI-CHESS TEAM ( markoslj@teleline.es ) If you have any question, your calc crashes with one of the 'stable' setups or you have a HW2 and want to share your experience with TI-CHESS, please mail me or any of the TI-CHESS TEAM members. Thanx to all of you!! ===============================================================================
